Pre dinner drinksDrinks in the library at 7.30pm allow everyone to meet before dinner, at about 8pm.
Dining together
People are always amazed how seemlessly this seems to work. The space is utterly unique, for a start. With the food, we aim for simple perfection. But bringing together like minded people in such an atmosphere can be a revelation. This is a place to share conversation and make lifelong friends. And it happens.
We are happy to arrange seperate dining, but we feel these guests might be missing something rare and wonderful.
Formality?
"I spend much of my day in a hot kitchen, and Mimi and I always mix with the guests over a pre dinner drink. We're secretly relieved when people dress in a relaxed way, even if 'Smart casual' might be the norm. If guests wish to dress 'up', we see it as a compliment to the house and its history."
Food
The classical but unpretentious cuisine at Moccas emphasises quality and reflects the season. Home-grown vegetables, Moccas venison, local game, lamb and beef; everything is sourced daily. As a farmer and chef of 18 years, Ben understands what it takes to source and produce exceptional meat, but is just as at home cooking for fish lovers or vegetarians.
Our three course 'set menu' is £45 incl. VAT.
Dinner is NOT available on Monday or Sunday nights.
We have a full liquor licence and an excellent wine list.
A Moccas Breakfast
Ben and Mimi have strong views about breakfast. It's not just the meal that sets you up for the day, but the most often abused in this country. Microwaves, juice in cartons, ropey yoghurts and leathery scrambled eggs seem to be uniformly passed off as essentials to the English Breakfast. Well, not here. Croissants are baked minutes before guests are seated. Freshly squeezed juice means exactly that. Everything is cooked to order on the Aga and the 'ping' of a microwave will never be heard. Reassuringly, we hope, scrambled eggs are cooked in the traditional fashion, seldom seen in this day and age.
